Ask Dr. Orloff

Does Prozac interfere with intuition?

Question: Dear Dr. Orloff,

Does taking Prozac or other antidepressants interfere with a person's intuition?
Thank you.
Jill
Lake Tahoe, CA

Answer: Dear Jill,

If you're taking Prozac or other antidepressants it's important to track your emotional openness and intuition. If you are on a large dose it can inhibit emotions and intuition. However, what I've seen in some patients is when their depression lifts, they're intuition opens. So it a very individual matter. On a smaller dose it is less likely. Nevertheless, to keep your inner voice open I suggest meditating regularly, tuning in, listening to your gut and body. This will help keep intuition open and emotions tuned in.
All the Best,
Judith
